FAQs
1. Who is this training for?
Answer: Our Mat & Reformer Instructor Courses are designed for aspiring Pilates teachers and fitness professionals who want to go beyond simply teaching classical repertoire — to really understand human movement principles, apply them practically, and deliver a modern, results-driven Pilates offering. No prior Pilates instructor certification is required; you just need a movement background or strong interest in becoming an instructor.
2. What are the prerequisites?
Answer: For both the 4-day in-person courses (Mat and Reformer) we require you to complete 50 hours of pre-course online theory. This gives you anatomy, movement science and foundational programming knowledge ready for the in-studio intensive. There’s no formal requirement for you to have worked as a Pilates instructor before — though any movement or fitness experience will be a benefit.
3. How are the courses structured?
Answer: Each course is a four-day in-person intensive (Hands-on teaching, cueing, programming, movement practice). Prior to that you complete 50 hours of online theory that covers anatomy, biomechanics, injury prevention, pregnancy considerations, and modern vs classical Pilates methods. The in-person portion brings that theory alive through practical sessions, movement labs, cueing practice, and instructor application.
4. What if I’ve only done classical Pilates training previously — can I still enroll?
Answer: Absolutely. In fact, we often welcome students who already have a classical base but want to evolve their teaching style into something more contemporary, movement-based and client-relevant. The Nuvra Method is built to bridge that gap between classical technique and modern application.
5. Will this qualify me to teach professionally?
Answer: Yes - upon successful completion of your course you will receive a Nuvra Instructor Certification (Mat or Reformer as per your course). From there you’ll be equipped with the knowledge to teach in studios, gyms or independently. (Be sure to check local insurance and registration requirements in your specific region.)
6. How much anatomy/-movement science is included?
Answer: A significant component. We believe that to teach with confidence and credibility you must understand the why behind every movement, cue, and sequence. That’s why the pre-course theory includes anatomy, biomechanics, programming logic, injury prevention and pregnancy/holistic contexts. Then in person we apply it to real teaching and class design.
7. What’s the difference between the Mat course and the Reformer course?
Answer: The Mat course focuses on teaching movement on the mat - body weight, small apparatus and foundational Pilates programming, blending classical Pilates roots with modern movement principles. The Reformer course takes you into apparatus teaching - springs, pulleys, boxes, advanced cueing, programming and client-specific adaptations. Many students complete both to deepen their skillset.
8. What is your teaching ‘style’ or philosophy?
Answer: At Nuvra we honour the roots of Pilates but we also recognise how movement, bodies and clients have evolved. We teach you to think like a movement scientist, a programmer and a teacher - not just a choreographer. You’ll learn to apply human movement principles, modern exercise science and effective programming within the Pilates framework, and to deliver it in a way clients respond to (both in studio and online). If you want to teach “just the classical moves” that’s fine - but we’ll show you how to upgrade it, modernise it, and make it yours.
9. Can I complete the theory portion at my own pace?
Answer: Yes, the 50-hour online theory is self-paced within a set timeframe (we’ll specify on enrolment). It must be completed before your in-person 4-day session so you arrive prepared and ready to get the most from the live training.
10. What support do I receive after the course?
Answer: At Nuvra you don’t just leave with a certificate and figure it out alone. You will receive ongoing support: access to the online theory modules post-course, teaching resources/templates, join our instructor community, and you can reach out for mentorship or follow-up questions as you step into teaching.
11. What if I’m pregnant or want to teach pre/post-natal clients?
Answer: Our curriculum covers pregnancy and injury-prevention considerations in both courses. You’ll learn how to safely program and cue clients who are pregnant, post‐natal or managing injuries. That said, every client context is unique, we encourage you to always screen, consult with health professionals when needed, and adapt accordingly.
12. Payment options & cancellation/rescheduling policy
Answer: We offer all payment options - Credit/Debit Card, Apple Pay, and are currently looking into platforms like Adteropay and Zip pay. If you’re looking for a payment plan, get in contact - we’d love to figure something out to start you on your Nuvra journey. As for rescheduling - we understand life gets in the way. We’re happy to reschedule courses for up to 12 months, all you need to do is let us know.
13. What makes Nuvra different from other Pilates teacher training courses?
Answer: In a nutshell; we bridge the gap between classical and contemporary. Many courses focus purely on the traditional Pilates repertoire and stop there; studios and clients today expect more - that intelligent movement, functional applications, varied modern clients, online/streamed classes, pregnancy/injury adaptations, emphasizing programming not just exercise stacks. With Nuvra you get the anatomy + programming + movement science + Pilates technique all aligned to the modern client and teaching environment.
